This years BBQ & Show is coming up soon, 10th September.
All entries into the Show MUST be handed over to Steve Yorke on the day prior to the 12 noon start, this will enable him to get everything set up for judging.
Donations for the Raffle are always gratefully received, so if you would like to donate an item, please hand it to any officer or committee member no later than Sunday 4th September, or bring it along to a Coffee Morning and leave it with the host.
There will be a variety of food on offer, with meat free options too. Both alcoholic and soft drinks will be available, and as always, food and drink is supplied free of charge.
Last years event was a big success, we hope that this years will be just as successful, if not better, and it would be great to see a few more of our tenants attend.

Further to my post on Sunday with regards to Burning day.
I have received a communication from the City Council putting in place a temporary ban on FIRES and Barbecues on all allotment sites, please see below:-

Due to the recent long hot dry spell that we have had, and the forecasters predicting that temperatures are due to rise again this week, with this hot weather expected to continue for at least another 10 days.
Therefore our August Burning Day has to be cancelled, and the lighting of any fire no matter how small is forbidden..
Signage will be put up around site.

Since my last post with regards to Water Usage members of the Committee got together to discuss and consider turning the water off for a period of time. After lengthy discussusions it was agreed that it would stay on.
Last months bill was exceptionally high, and although our consumption had reduced, this months may be relatively high too. Therfore, I urge you to use water responsibly and use a watering can whenever possible.
There has been a number of water authorities that have imposed hose pipe bans recently, although Severn Trent isn’t one of them, at the moment they are asking people not to use hosepipes, butI do expect them to bring a ban in to force soon, having not had any significant rainfall. The weather for the next 10 days predicts that tempratures will rise again, with no rain forecast, making the likelyhood of a hosepipe ban more likely.
Our “Water Usage Policy” states that sprinklers are prohibited, yet I have had reports that a few tenants are using them. This a blatant disregard for the rules that you agreed to abide by and will be dealt with accordingly. It certainly isn’t using water responsibly.
The committee will be meeting again on the 14th August and water usage will be on the agenda.

As temperatures have risen dramatically over the last few days, Severn Trent is urging everyone to think about using water wisely while enjoying the sunny weather, to ensure there’s enough clean drinking water for everyone during this hot weather, whilst helping to save money on bills too. In particular they have asked customers to water gardens with a watering can rather than a hose.
There is no hose pipe ban in place at the moment, but this could change very quickly if there are no significant amounts of rainfall soon.
They have published at list of tips, here are a few of them:-
Top tips for saving water are:
So, please use water responsibly, I recently had a complaint from a tenant stating that the gardener next door had had there hose connected for four hours, four hours!!!!. If that hose was running you could fill 4 x 1000 litre tanks in that time, that is equivalent to half of our sites normal average daily water consumption.
I appreciate that we are currently experiencing an extreme weather event, but we need to reduce our water consumption, so when possible, use a watering can to water the base of plants rather than soaking your entire plot with a hose pipe. When filling water butts or tanks, dont leave them unattended risking them overflowing.
I have been urged to turn the water off for a couple of days, but after considerable thought, rightly or wrongly I have resisted that request for 3 reasons,
Should Severn Trent introduce a hose pipe ban in the coming days or weeks, I would expect all tenant to abide by this ban, and though we have nothing in our Policy with regards to such a ban, should any tenant fail to abide by it. Please be aware, should any tenant/s fail to abide by it, it would be my responsibility as Secretary to inform the relevant authority who have been tasked to enforce it, and I assure you, I will.
I will hopefully be able to get our Committee together in the coming days to discuss our water consumption specifically, and will update the website accordingly.
John Stooke – Secretary
