DIY Polytunnel

Hi.  I recently found the following article which shows how to build a cheap and durable do it yourself poly tunnel  (click here).  I have bought some poly pipe and intend putting up a netted tunnel using the same method later in the year.  I have created a small spreadsheet which will calculate a couple of things for you if you decide it’s something you want to do and want some help on the numbers as I did.  Send me an email and I will let you have a copy unless I find out how to attach it to this web site in which case I will add it to this post as something you can download directly.

Good news.  I have figured out how to attach it – Click this link to download the calculator – Polytunnel Calculator

Hope that helps – Steve M

Allotment Rents

There is shortly to be an announcement about allotment rents.  As many of you who have been allotment holders for some time will know, it has been 5 years since the council carried out any review of rents charged.  As a first move to making changes allotments will no longer be measured in square yards but will from now on be measured in square metres.  This means that the average plot size which is currently 450 square yards will now be about 377 square metres you can work this out for yourselves if your plot is a different size the multiplication formula is 1 square yard = 0.83 square metres.  So for example 450 sq yards multiplied by 0.83 = 377 sq metres.  The new rental will therefore be charged on your square metre area.  The new price per annum of a square metre is yet to be announced but you will be informed as soon as possible what this is proposed to be.  Please leave any comments you wish to using the form below.
