The Nottingham City Council want to substantially increase allotment rents to help cover their expenses in running the allotment service due to cuts in overall funding by Central Government to Councils in general. Yesterday they sent an email and poster inviting people with allotments to have their say by filling in an online survey/questionnaire. The link to this survey is as follows:
Push the big orange button when you access the above link.
YOU ONLY HAVE UNTIL THE 14TH OF OCTOBER TO ANSWER THIS SURVEY SO IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN EXPRESSING YOUR VIEWS TO THEM YOU WILL NEED TO GET ON WITH DOING IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
It should be noted that as things stand this proposal concerns direct let sites, however, it will have an impact of association sites like ours in due course.
The body of their email to allotment associations was as follows (the survey link is in there too).
=====================================================================
Dear Leasehold Allotment Association Secretary or Association Council Contact,
I am emailing you as our records show that you are listed as one of your allotment association contacts in our database. In this instance I am emailing all association contacts, as well as secretaries, to publicise the continuing consultation on changes to allotment rent rates. If you no longer represent your association please let me know and I will amend our records accordingly.
The Allotments Service has previously asked for the views of allotment associations as part of the ongoing consultation on Nottingham City Council’s proposals to increase the direct-let allotment garden rent rate and make changes to fees, charges and tenancy conditions. Nottingham City Council’s Allotments Service is extending the consultation to welcome the views of leasehold association allotment-tenants, other gardening bodies, and citizens on the current proposals.
Please find information on the proposals and online consultation survey at the link below.
We would be pleased if you could publicise this consultation with your site’s tenants and explain how these proposals could affect your tenants on your site in the future.
With your permission, we would like to erect a poster on your site gate. We would be pleased if you could also put a copy attached on your notice board.
I will also send an email shortly that can be forwarded on to your tenants.
If tenants require information by post please ask them to call 9152727 and leave a message requesting a consultation pack that includes their request for consultation materials, site name, name, address, and phone number.
The closing date for the consultation is Sunday 14 October 2018. Please be aware of the short window of consultation with this final group of allotment users and others.
As an association, if you wish to email any further views or require information by post please contact the Allotments Service at allotment.office@nottinghamcity.gov.uk or on 9152727.
Regards
Alex Begg
