OLD PARK FARM BBQ – SATURDAY 1st SEPTEMBER 2018

ALL GARDEN HOLDERS, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS ARE, OF COURSE WELCOME.  YOU CAN SHOW, VEGETABLES, FRUIT OR FLOWERS, ANYTHING YOU ARE PROUD OF, SUCCESSES, FAILURES, AMUSING OR OF INTEREST.

AN AUCTION WILL FOLLOW OF ENTRIES WITH PROCEEDS GOING TOWARDS FOOD COSTS.

IF YOU WISH TO SELL SURPLUS PLANTS, CRAFTS  ETC THEN YOU ARE WELCOME TO SET UP A STALL. ANY OTHER IDEAS PLEASE DISCUSS WITH ME. PRODUCE TO THE SHOW AREA BY 12.30 PM AT LATEST.

THE  BBQ FOOD AND DRINKS INCLUDING BEER WILL BE SERVED FROM ABOUT 1.30PM.

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PAY YOUR RENT IF YOU WISH.

RSVP TO ENSURE WE HAVE ENOUGH FOOD TO GO AROUND.

IT WAS REALLY ENJOYABLE LAST YEAR WE GOT THROUGH 70 BURGERS IT BE NICE TO SEE AS MANY OF YOU THERE AGAIN.

If you fancy working off some calories before come and do a couple of hours of community work in the morning…….you will get bigger portions !!

Compost Sales

For the information of all.  Compost and other supplies are now on sale from the association hut off the main car park.  To make things easier the hut will be staffed between 10am and 12 midday on Saturdays and Sundays for the next few weeks to facilitate sales.

Please be aware that these supplies are already selling fast and that at least a quarter of the compost we had delivered last week has already gone as well as half of the bamboo canes.  If you want some you need to come and get it while stocks last.  The price of supplies available are as follows:

  • Mother Earth Compost 70 litres – £4.20
  • Growbags – £2.60
  • Growmore Granules – 25 Kg – £16.00
  • Fish Blood and Bone Feed – 25 Kg – £12.00
  • Canes 8ft – £0.40 each
  • Lime – £4.30

If you want supplies outside of these times please find Steve Williams, Steve Yorke or Jackie and Steve Medcalf when they are available.  Also try and remember to bring the correct money for the items you want to buy as we struggle for change at times.

Compost Delivery 2017

The compost will be delivered next Tuesday 14th Feb between 9.30am and 10.30am, it’s not a massive order but a few helping hands to offload the lorry would be appreciated. Can you let me know if you can come along and help carry them into store.

NEWS AND REMINDERS

For information the inspection of the Allotments will take place on Friday 17th February.

This years compost delivery will be some time week commencing the 13th February,  please look out for pleas to help unload. I will not know exact times until 48 hours before delivery.

There are some price changes but as always we are not making a profit and are passing on the cost price to us with a little give and take as i have tried to reduce the more expensive items without us making a loss. They prices are as follows.

  • Mother Earth Compost 70lts – £4.20 –  (RRP £4.73)
  • Growbags – £2.60
  • Growmore Granules – £16.00 – (RRP £18.52)
  • Fish blood and bone – £12.00
  • Canes 8ft – £0.40 each
  • Lime – £4.30

The Annual General Meeting will be on Sunday 19th March. The meeting will start at 10.30am with refreshments and sign in from 10am.

Also I know we are all concerned about the pot holes on the main roadway. We have sourced a supplier of road stone and this will be delivered and laid by April.  We will be asking for gardeners help to do this work nearer the time.

This years compost will be delivered on Thursday 10th March between around 10:00am and 11:00am to the association buildings adjacent to the main car park.  The compost has to be off loaded manually.  If anyone among you has the time to come and help it would be greatly appreciated.

Annual Show And Barbecue

The annual BBQ and show is only a few weeks away. Join us on Saturday 5th September.

Show off any fruit or vegetables or flowers which you are particularly proud of or that are unusual quirky or of interest to others. There will be a lighthearted judging and an auction. Entries in by 12 noon please.

There will be a flea market sale of bits and bobs rescued from Reg’s old gardens. We will also be running a Raffle.If anyone wishes to donate something as a prize  for the raffle that would be very welcome.

The BBQ will start around 1.30 pm.  Food, beer and soft drinks will be available to all. If you intend to bring friends/family it would be helpful to the caterer (me!) to know in advance.

Old park farm honey is now available for purchase at £4 a jar from the 3 Steves and myself.  It’s particularly tasty and was produced on the allotments.
