Some of you will be aware that Billy Burglar and his mates visited us once again overnight this last Sunday.  From what we have been able to see we think that 9 allotments were attacked and a substantial amount of kit was again taken.  They had so much that they had to abandon some of it near to the railway bridge because the lazy bastards were too tired to take it all home and later down to the pub for a sale.  We have recovered a generator, a rotavator and a flame gun some of which we still have to get back to its rightful owners.

The government have now brought in a new set of rules to keep their farcical crime numbers low and that comes in the form of an instruction to your local cops stating that they can only take crime details from the person who was the victim.  Therefore we cannot report the crime on your behalf.  If you were one of the victims please contact PIO (I have no idea what a PIO is but its a civilian and not a proper copper) 4877 Candice Lagor, quoting incident number 138-002062014.  She can be contacted by calling 101.  She can also be contacted direct on her email: candice.lagor4877@nottinghamshire.pnn.police.uk

Good luck and a reminder to you all, if any was needed that this is the fifth time we have been attacked since last November.  If you can take your good stuff home with you, do so if you don’t want it sold in the Green Barrel the next day for about a tenth of what you paid for it.

Death Of Henry Harel

It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Henry Harrel who used garden numbers 56 and 57.

He died of cancer in Haywood House some days ago following a lengthy and largely unreported illness.  If anyone has any personal details about Henry concerning relatives or indeed anything else could they contact Jackie in the first instance.

You may add any comments you wish to make to this post if you feel it appropriate to do so.

More Bad News

Hello all once more.  Yet again I contact you with bad news.  Overnight Wednesday / Thursday 13th / 14th November we were again visited by thieving b******s who have this time broken into all of the gardens on the top annexe.  As well as taking property and leaving stuff out for later collection they have once more done a considerable amount of damage in kicking doors and supports down as well as jemmying other doors off. They broke in by cutting through the wire on the upper annexe gate in the same way they cut through the wire on the main gate last time so its probably the same people who visited us last time. After attacking the upper gardens they appear to have come through onto the main garden area via hedge hopping, where they have broken into another four gardens that are apparent so far, so about nine gardens altogether have been entered.  Jackie and I have picked up the property that was left on the pathways, all of this was on the annexe garden paths and we will get it back to those whom we think it belongs in due course.  We have contacted all of those affected so if you haven’t had a message left from us you are probably OK.  If we have missed you however would you let us know that you have been attacked.  We have informed the Police yet again and they have said they will visit. Additionally if you are a victim they will contact you direct themselves.  If you need to contact them yourselves please quote incident number 174/14112013 to them calling 101 to make contact with their none emergency line.  I have contacted a mobile welding company who will attend on Monday next to carry out some extra work to the gates to try and make this particular method of entry less likely in the future.  The fact is we have become an attraction for some enterprising young man for whom thieving from us is obviously easier than getting a job.  There is little we can do apart from the obvious to stop him or indeed her so could we ask that if you have anything at all of value on the allotments that you take it home and store it there over the winter period.  The Police aren’t going to be able to do much either I don’t expect so its really down to us individually to make the gardens as unappealing as possible to them in the future.

Intruder Alert Captain !!!

On Friday 26th July Jackie followed an intruder from the gardens mid afternoon . He climbed out over the main gate. After a bit of a hunt she discovered him hiding behind a car on the road. She challenged him as to what he thought he had been doing.  He did not appear to have anything on him.  He was a little distressed but she gave him her best telling off anyway. She did not want to try to detain him as no one else was around and he was clearly a bit flaky.

It was discovered later that he had stolen a mobile and cash from Phil HILSDEN’s car. Another gardener has recently reported the theft of small amounts of cash from his own car. From his behaviour it looks like this lad is probably a druggie looking for easy access to cash, so please be aware of ongoing site and of course your own security.

She has a photo of his back view, which she will let the Police have.

Can you please pass this message onto your neighbors on the gardens who do not read e-mail or access to the association web site..

Annual General Meeting Thanks

Many thanks to those who braved the arctic conditions and made it to the AGM on Sunday. The committee remains as was except for Dan who resigned earlier this year. It was good to welcome the addition of Joe, Phil, Paul and Jane. Hopefully another person at least will be seconded onto the team at the next meeting. We now have a working group of at least 10 members which makes us a much more robust committee. Hopefully a combination of expertise and new ideas combined with a positive and professional manner will help us manage these gardens in a way that will ensure a good working environment for us all.

Due to the weather being so poor over the last two weekends we have extended the opportunity for you to pay your rents in person to next weekend as well. Steve or I will be available to take your money on site next Saturday 30th March from 10am until 2.45 pm. There is still plenty of time to post cheque’s to Kay.

Please note the expectation is that all rents should be paid by April 1st.

If you are giving an allotment up please let me know asap so I can get a new tenant up and running so the association does not loose money.

If anyone is experiencing difficulties in paying please contact Kay or myself and discuss the options. If you wish I could meet you at the gardens for payment of rents or for compost, again please just call me. Alternatively see Steve Yorke when he is on site who also has keys to the store

Fly Tipping Of A Kind

Hello to all avid readers of this blog.  May I wish you all a Happy and prosperous New Year, and one which may be a bit dryer than the last one.

Some enterprising soul, who is probably not an allotment holder,  has recently been placing numerous bags of what appears to be either wood chippings or the detritus from the bottom of a chicken coop up against the various gates of our glorious allotments in turn.  This has been going on for a few weeks now and no doubt those of us who have been to the ‘water gardens’ as they are now known, will have seen them.   The reason I bring this to your attention is that just as mysteriously as they have arrived they have just as mysteriously, until now,  disappeared within a few days of being deposited.  As you may know in a previous life I was a member of the bacon battalion and my extensive training as a detective led me to work out that they may have been left there by arrangement with one of our number who has then removed them for their own use.  The last lot of bags to have been left, this time outside the bottom gate near the railway bridge,  have now been there for some time however, and show no sign of being spirited away in keeping with previous practice.  Could I ask that if anyone knows either who is leaving them there, or better still, for whom they are being left that they contact Jackie, (the secretary on 07931 950950) so that we can get something done about getting the last lot shifted.

The problem with stuff being left like this is that it encourages other fly tippers to come and deposit their own rubbish which, is something to be avoided.  Old Coach Road has been visited by the fly tipping fairy twice this past year to my direct knowledge and it means that someone else has to arrange to have it shifted.

Thank you in anticipation that someone can and may possibly help.
