Missing Cat

A local resident has lost her cat and thinks there is a possibility that he might be found on the allotments.  Attached is a picture of him along with a description and contact details of his owner.   If you should see him would you contact her please and get the re-united.  Thanks.

bramble

Large (34”) fluffy tabby-and-white male cat missing from Burnwood Drive. Note that he has no white on his face. He often visits Denholme Road but is frightened of traffic so unlikely to have crossed Glaisdale Drive. He has not been seen since 10th June (on Belmore Gardens) so I am widening the search.  If you live or work in Bilborough or Wollaton, please look out for him and check your outbuildings. If you see him, please call Zoë (owner) on 928 2896 AT ANY TIME, Mae on 928 6385 or Lynn (24 hours) on 989 0243. He is very shy so please don’t approach

Yet again we have received complaints about allotment holders burning things on their gardens on days other than sanctioned burning days.  Let me state again the rules for us to avoid ‘confusion’.  We are allowed to burn garden waste (nothing else) on the second Sunday of each month, not on any other days. This includes wood and other natural materials.  It does not include plastics, rubber, carpets or other potential pollutants.  If it’s  raining on a burning day that is just bad luck and if you are unable to get a fire going then the burning must be held over to the next available burning day.

In addition to this we currently also allow ourselves to burn small amounts in braziers, this however is now under consideration because again people are abusing this by burning inappropriate items or by trying to burn damp garden waste which then creates large amounts of smoke causing annoyance to local businesses and residents.  Brazier burning should be used for readily combustible dry materials which causes little or no smoke and nothing else, it should not be used to burn damp green garden waste or built in such a way with materials which cause smoke build up.  Please remember that we exist in a smoke control area and are subject to local authority control for which garden holders can individually be fined personally up to £5000 for causing nuisance with fires.  Please stick to the rules or we may find ourselves losing the ability to have any fires at all.  The dates for the rest of this year when you may burn garden waste are as follows – again:

  • Sunday 14th June 2015
  • Sunday 12th July 2015
  • Sunday 9th August 2015
  • Sunday 13th September 2015
  • Sunday 11th October 2015
  • Sunday 1st to Sunday 8th November 2015 (The whole week containing Bonfire Night)
  •  Sunday 13th December 2015

Thank you in advance for your co-operation in this matter.

Apologies: Jane Bowden:

Last meeting was about preparation for AGM so know matters arising.

Matter carried over from meeting on 31st January was the matter of Dog mess.  Signs had been put up but still some fouling. Jackie to have a word with culprits.

Chairman’s report. Steve reported a leaking tap near to Chris’s garden. Presume valve probs.

Treasurer’s report. Bank balance is a healthy £6423. Rent collected was £1336 and water charges £1801.  Expenditure so has been on compost (which we will recoup) and toilet hire.

The system of having to account for our council refund was explained for the benefit of our new members.

Secretary’s report.

No further developments on lease discussions.

Still had some gardens to let, 2 of which were those that had not picked up keys.

Waiting lists at council were a complete mess, making it a struggle to find people who were still interested.

Reg’s old gardens. Have started to sort them out but will be a long process. Money raised by sales of items from gardens will go towards costs of skips.

Annual BBQ on 5th September.

Ronnie volunteered to do a raffle.

Steve and Jackie will do the food.

Steve M will also do the auction.

We will have flowers, fruits and vegetables but concentrate more on the novelty/unusual side than sticking to the usual more formal format.

Will need to advertise.

AOB

Main gate. Some sharp bits that want taking off, right where fingers go to open gate. We will have a go at sorting it.

Steve Yorke will spray the main pathway, car parks but leave the area near our garden to encourage wild flowers.

Jackie mentioned difficulty of access to gate near the railway due to parking. Not much can be done though as there are no parking restrictions.

We have potholes. We need some road stone. Sos had a contact originally for man and digger.  We will need to make some enqs to see if we can get some.

The Chairman thanked our new committee members for their presence and the meeting closed at 11.15am.
NEXT MEETING Saturday 13th June at 10.30.

Nefarious Goings On

Hello all. Yesterday it was reported that over the weekend one of the official city green taxis was parked up at the bottom end of Old Coach Road near the railway bridge, outside the lower gate to the allotments.  The driver, an older Asian male was seen in the rear of the car with a young white girl and although nothing untoward was seen it was obviously quite a concerning observation bearing in mind recent grooming events which have gone on around other areas of the country.  The driver when he realised he had been seen, got into the front of the car and drove quickly away.

The following day, early in the morning, the same witness observed two young Asians in a smaller car parked in the same place smoking cannabis which he smelled as he walked past.  As he entered the gardens this car also turned around a sped off paying undue attention to the witness as he entered the garden to a point where he felt that the two incidents might in some way be connected.

I have myself on occasion seen vehicles parked at the weekend at the bottom of the road with people in them with no real reason to be there, the factories being closed etc.  I have reported these incidents to the Police on behalf of the garden holder and they have promised to step up patrols in the area, however from my own experience I know this can be hit and miss.  Could I ask that if any of you see anything like this yourselves that if possible, AND WITHOUT DRAWING UNDUE ATTENTION TO YOURSELVES, that you try and obtain the registered numbers of cars you observe together with a time that you see the cars there and perhaps the colour and type of car you see.  If you then report this to Jackie or myself we will co-ordinate this with the Police and hopefully nip this in the bud before it becomes an issue for us.  Thanks for your help and please let me stress that whilst no threats have been made to anyone you should be careful in obtaining any details of vehicles if you should witness anything yourself.  Thanks – Steve Medcalf.

The Wollaton Singers

Hello all. Jane Bowden has asked for this to be advertised on the web site.  Please support if you can.

Garden Clearance

We will be clearing two gardens that used to belong to Reg Elmer over the next couple of months.  There are twenty buildings on the gardens all full of half a centuries worth of gardening equipment.

It is our intention to sell as much as we can to raise funds for the hire of skips that we will need to clear the gardens so we can lease them again.  Hopefully over the next few weeks we will split everything into different parts e.g. pots and tools.  There  are a couple of greenhouses plus frame parts. there is also a lot of poly-carbonate, a lot of which is in good condition.

If you are interested in a greenhouse please contact Jackie.  Priority is being given to gardeners who do not have one on their plot.

We will have some rummage sales at some point but in the meantime you are welcome to talk to us about what is there if you think you might be interested.  All proceeds from any sales will be shown in the accounts.

Jackie

Compost Delivery

Hi all,  at around 2pm tomorrow (Wednesday 8th April), there will be a delivery of 2 pallet loads of bags of compost which we need to move into the association hut.  If you are around or can make yourselves available for half an hour to help move it it would be greatly appreciated.  Please help if you can.  Thanks.  The Committee.

Thanks to  Pete Eady, Chris Skinner, John Gallagher, Pete Grove, the others who arrived but were late because the delivery came early and the committee for turning up and unloading over two and a half tons of stuff.
